The Goukou River has a beautiful estuary at Stilbaai. This unpolluted river is navigable for 15 km upstream from the river-mouth. A meandering road runs up-river along the western bank for 19 km. Along this winding road the traveller can indulge in breathtaking scenery and tranquillity. There are many farms along the Goukou Meander, many of which are productive olive farms, while others offer venues, accommodation and recreational activities.
Much has been done to promote the riches of this area and visitors are invited to follow this winding road to discover and enjoy the scenic beauty and open-hearted hospitality. Of late, many farm owners have converted their cottages, houses and other types of lodging into self-catering facilities, guest farms and upmarket accommodation. This is ideal to escape the hustle and bustle in Stilbaai during peak season. Visitors can enjoy birding, swimming, water-skiing, canoeing, fishing and more (within the rules of the Marine Protected Area which includes the river).
A number of these river farms are productive olive farms/estates, producing award-winning olive products. Some also offer spectacular venues for weddings and other events, along with outstanding accommodation. Visitors can attend olive product tastings and buy olive products directly from the source.

- Kransfontein olive farm (10 km) at “Muffets” turn-off: A deli with a variety of olive products, a stunning hiking route, picnic area, a rock pool braai area (by pre-arrangement only and at a fee) and up-market accommodation. Tel 083 973 5772.
