About Jongensfontein
Jongensfontein / Melkhoutfontein / Vermaaklikheid / Goukou Meander
The Eden of the Garden Route

Jongensfontein

10 km west of Stilbaai, this peaceful hamlet has become a very popular holiday destination along the Garden Route. Jongensfontein offers spectacular views of the rugged coastline and ocean, as well as all the facilities needed for a short-term stay.

Brief Summary of the History

Given their proximity, Stilbaai and Jongensfontein undoubtedly share a common ancient history dating back to the Middle Stone Age. Around 2000 years ago, inhabitants transitioned to pastoralism. In 1713, a Dutch expedition stumbled upon a spring located some distance from the beach, initially used by the Khoi people.

Over time, European settlers began using the spring to water their livestock, and by the early 1900s, it evolved into a holiday destination primarily for local farmers. It wasn’t until the late 1960s that any formal town layout emerged.

Following a visit to the village, town planner WB Hart provided recommendations for its development, and in 1968, permission was granted. Subsequently, the town evolved into the upscale holiday resort retreat it is today. The houses are spectacular, designed to maximize the expansive, uninterrupted ocean views.

With its breath-taking beauty and secluded location, Jongensfontein has grown into an exclusive and prestigious destination for tourists.
