Vermaaklikheid
Vermaaklikheid (entertainment) is some 42 km from Stilbaai. Follow the Jongensfontein road, take the turnoff to Blombos and follow the gravel road to Vermaaklikheid.
Do not expect a town per se – what used to be a 15 000 ha farm in the 1800s was gradually subdivided as the family expanded. Some of those plots were again subdivided to accommodate further generations. As a result, some homesteads got sprinkled over the original farm, while in some areas others are clustered more closely together, almost resembling a village-like structure.
This charming hamlet is near the Duivenhoks River among indigenous fynbos, pastures, young olive groves, poplar woods and dune veld. Apart from small wildlife, more than 100 species of birds also inhabit the area. In this scenic and peaceful environment far away from the city’s rat race lifestyle one can truly relax and regain sanity.

Accommodation
A number of comfortable self-catering cottages are available for rent, most of which are along the Duivenhoks River. These range from elegant to somewhat rustic, to a tented camp and a beach shack.
Commercial and Cultural Ventures
Vermaaklikheid boasts one shop called Josie’s General Store. The name pretty much sums up the scope of its trade.
They also care about the education of their children. There is a VGK Primary School, as well as a library next to the school.

Vermaaklikheid is remote, tranquil and unspoiled – if you need peace, this is where you should go.
Activities around Vermaaklikheid include reading, bird watching, canoeing, swimming, cycling, and river fishing.
A mere 10 km away at the Duivenhoks River mouth more activities are waiting, such as boating, snorkelling and long beach walks. Kob, steenbras, mussel crackers and the like are waiting for a match with avid sea anglers.
