Heritage Day at The Blombos Museum of Archaeology

September 24 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

Celebrate the rich heritage of the Hessequa with a special Heritage Day programme at the Blombos Museum of Archaeology in Stilbaai on Thursday, 24 September.

The morning begins at 09:30 with heritage architect Helene Potgieter, who will present a talk on “The Importance of the Conservation of Our Historical Buildings / Die Belang van die Bewaring van Ons Historiese Geboue”, focusing on the historic St Michael’s Anglican Church in Riversdale. A Q&A session will follow, with tea, coffee and traditional cakes available at Kenneth’s O MGF Restaurant.

At 11:00, experience a beloved Stilbaai tradition with the feeding of the eels at the historic Palinggat eel pond.

The programme continues at 11:30 in the School Room with “Mural Memories”, where beloved Stilbaai artist Maxie du Plooy and two of the four scholars who helped paint the School Room mural in 1996 will share memories of creating this much-loved piece of local heritage.

Join us for a morning celebrating history, art, architecture and the living traditions that make Stilbaai unique.
